LT was the other vendor. It's an ongoing thing though until they down select a final vendor for the long term contract.

I heard rumors of this happening but didn’t know it was bearing fruit now. It will be interesting to see what ammunition is chosen. Do they stay within the wheelhouse of 130-140 grain or kick it up to 143-147?

Being that it’s a gas gun I assume it will be in the 130-140.

I haven’t kept up with this thread, but from a quick read through, what I’m seeing here is that the guys that fancy themselves “long range shooters” prefer 6.5 CM and the folks living in the real world like 308. Am I caught up now?!?

I do like 6.5 cartridges specifically 6.5x55, and after all the hype a few years ago, I bought an Encore barrel in 260 and couldn’t get it to shoot for sh*t. I tried different bullets, bullet weight, and powders, so I ended up dumping it.

Should have bought a Tikka. It’s very easy to load for, has a butter smooth action and shoots fantastic.

Unlike the 308, the 260 doesn’t have 71 years of civilian/military loading/reloading history to choose from.

I have a tackdriver of a 260 that I use for long range plinking. You still have to know the drop and windage just like the 308. I would say that maybe after 500 yards the 260 shows an advantage.

Shouldn't be a "maybe" there. Unless you're loading those .264 bullets backwards, that cartridge should out class the .308 everywhere past 500 yards...

...except for 'manliness'.






P.S. I once had a .260 too. My reason for leaving was Remington only brass at the time, and there was no .243 Lapua brass available anywhere. I was quickly handicapped and lost interest.

Whoever set up the machinery at Remington for making those cases must have been working part-time to save up for a cataracts surgery. About 20% of those cases were junk right off the bat due to misaligned flash holes. Not good when you buy 500 of them.

I can get the most velocity out of Remington brass. Not so with Lapua. Give me 260 Rem brass, H4350, 140 Berger Hybrid VLD and I’ve got a sub 1/2 moa load racing along at 2,887fps. It doesn’t go subsonic until about 1400-1500 yards.

Is this in an AR and weather or not what barrel length.

I think the OP was wanting AR platform and I would think 20" barrel length for me would be max in that platform if I was having to carry it very much and much prefer 18"

I just love the shorter barrels for a wider accuracy node.

Would also be nice to know what distance is this really going to be used for.

My fantasies of long range target shooting and standing on one mountain top and taking game on another mountain top are long gone.

I'm just considering options for dropping critters within a few hundred yards and I prefer a semi auto platform if shooting at multiple hogs.
