I need some help...can someone tell me if you can convert .avi files into mp4?....if so, what is a good program to do that with? I googled it and several popped up but I'm always iffy about downloading an unknown program.
Take a look at Handbrake. I use it to rip DVD's down for my iPhone. I am pretty sure it will handle .avi conversions.

I used Handbrake when I had my Mac. It was by far the easiest and best program I had used for that stuff.
It would rip a DVD straight to an end-file format (avi, mp4, etc..) with no intermediate steps. Took a while, but was sure easy.
