I thought I’d ask.

I’m considering a practical holster for a S&W Highway Patrolman (top of second picture). I’ll shoot Bret Collier (a member here who made two in the first photo) a pm as well. The last pictures are just web captures of potential styles.

But let fly if you have any recommendations for a practical field holster appropriate for the one in the picture still lacking leather. Pictures welcome!

I like the looks of all of them. Which ones are the member here?
The left and right in the first picture were made by Brett. Nice work and nice material!

I’ thinking a little more minimalist for this one. Might have a pattern… but less leather. And how it hangs on a belt best is a big question jn my mind.

That Thcker (USMC Concho) is great but gun and holster take up half the right side if my body😉

I'm with you. I would like a minimalist version that drops from the belt as a range carry holster for my 28-2.

How does that third holster in the first picture do for you?

Hosters are like guns, if you don't like them you won't use them.
Ask yourself

Where will I use it the most?
Do I want concealability?
Do I want it for fast draw?
Do I want comfort?
Do I want maximum protection for the gun?
Do I want easy on easy off of my belt or belt loops?
Do I want a fixed position on the belt or adjustable?
Do I want crossdraw?
Do I want reloads in a speedloader?

Boy howdy, you ask a good question.

Its an eight inch barrel so the slant away from the leg at the muzzle is exaggerated by the longer barrel. The Highway Patrolman S&W is 5 3/4”, but still how it hangs off the belt is a factor. Plus that simple belt loop allows it to migrate over the pancake style. The other is the Tucker with a 4”.

Food for thought!
