Have been getting less and less hot water from my tank lately. Ive flushed it and turned it up, but am still not getting a whole bath full of water like i used to. House is 6 years old, and believe it a 40 gallon tank. What could be the prob?
Sounds like the dip tube has gone bad
If it is electric, it sounds like an element is burned out.
Mine is electric, and every winter I experience less hot water. Have to turn the shower handle all the way to hot almost. I'm thinking its because the copper waterline running through the slab is losing heat as the ground gets cold. In the summer we have no problem. Our water heater is a single element, and I have it wrapped with a fiberglass blanket.

Yea but before you just go replacing parts you need to see what you can get out of the tank.
Let the tank completely heat the water that is inside it ( dont test right after dishes or a shower) and take a pitcher of known size and literally count out pitchers until the water gets considerably cooler.
The worst part is that the ground temp is lower in the winter and the cool water you mix into the hot is colder so it takes more hot water to heat it up ( if that even makes sense)
Especially since we live on a water well. The water is around 40 degrees F coming into the heater. Makes perfect sense.
mine did the same replaced dip tube works fine but i had to flush tank several times to get out white particles plus had to clean out all filters at faucets in the house....
I've never dealt with a well. What temp is the water in the summer? Good, cold well water is awesome ( the few times I've had it) Not like this crap we get from Tulsa
