Along with what they said, there are tons of instructables out there. I've made a few. Bracelets, keychains, etc. My kids are good with them too. My wife likes to say it's like knitting for men.

Just the accessibility to have around 12ft of 550 cord on you to be used if ever needed with the pull of a string, you'd be surprised on how handy it can come in

Lots of Youtube videos out there....once you get the hang of it you can knock out a bracelet in a few minutes.
