How to tell if gold and silver, or plate?

Yeah, he’s a good dude, just be aware there’s a lot of cool old coins in there too. I would say leave your wallet in the car, but then you’ll just have to walk back out there to get it when you find something you can’t live without.

Cut the item in question in half with a cutting wheel or saw blade on a Daniel Tool and examine the cut edge using a 10x Jeweler’s Loop. The plated material should be visible on the outer edge of the cut surface. That’s how I do it. My wife say’s I’ve destroyed thousands of Dallas worth of haiku’s god jewelry over the years…..
