Hvac question

I have 2 carrier units (10 years old) weather maker 8000 model
both heat pumps do not comes on, fan motor outside.
Thermostats set on heat blower auto, filters changed, breakers & fuses ok
Both ac’s worked fine in the summer
When heat turned up (used +10 degrees of RT) heat changes to emergency heat & gas is used. It is the same on both units, kind of odd for both to do the same thing.

Any ideas

I had a similar failure, no heat when thermostat turned to heat, A/c worked fine , this was Not a heat pump unit. Turned out to be the circuit board in the furnace . Good luck
