By the way, in defense of the 429, 460 385 series, when done properly they are very comparable to the Chevy 454. Unfortunately I have little practical experience. Looking for a 66/67 Fairlane GTA, or 70/71 Torino or Montego. Good Luck on your 71 Mustang, looks like they are climbing in value!

427 Windsor uses a 351 Windsor Block if I'm not mistaken! Awesome engine BTW. Looks like a 302 from the outside as well and lighter than a 390 FE.
Yes, not many can tell the deck height is a tad taller then a 289.
SBFs are great engines just don’t spin the stock assembly over 7 for too long.
The 429/460 is a totally different animal then the FE series. The “BBF” is in the 385/Lima family.
If you want big torque for a just a little more $$, go with a BBF

The 460 is not an FE Motor, the 460 is part of the 385 series. FE engines 332, 352, 360, 390, 406, 410, 427, 428, 430 and 462 CID motors. Everyone thinks there is only 1 350 Chevy, if my memory serves me well there are several variations of it, some good and some bad. Personally I would have hopes of a 351 Cleveland 4 bbl or 390 FE for this project. The 390 FE can be a workhorse or screaming performance engine.
He was replying he liked the 460 option because he doesn't like FE's.

Wasn't completely sure if he was pointing out that it was an FE and he did not like FE motors. But heck, rather have the FE. Buy a new forged crank and Turn a 390 into a true 427. Even the 390 responds very well to cams and carbs.
