Identify That Engine Block

Small block Chevy block. Was told it is a 383 block, but I can't find out anything about it. It is supposed to be a brand new block and I think it has a 2 piece rear main seal.

Also, if anyone has a bore gauge I could borrow I'd appreciate it.

There is no 383 block,383 uses a 400 block.It would have a 2 piece main seal since they ceased production of 400's prior to going to one piece seal.I'm sure there is casting number reference sites on the web.

Its a 350 crate engine.

Chevy does not make a 383 block, I have a book somewhere that I can look up the number and find out what it is, if I find it I will let you know

Yes you're right,senior moment.5.7 rods on a 400 crank or the better with 6" rods. I'm not really a small block guy(or a Chevy guy anymore).
