There's a problem with that--the Zetas are the most likely to make it past the mines, and I'm pretty sure most people wouldn't want them as "members of the club."

No - the Zetas would make others "clear the minefields" by forcing innocents to run through them, so they could continue their drug smuggling. But the long and short of it is that we need to station large amounts of troops on the border to completely stop the invasion. Until you put the plug in the boat, all the bailing in the world isn't going to keep it from sinking. Fix the leak first, then deal with what's here.

Final bill will probably be something like ten new miles of fence to be completed by 2050, a couple of new border agents to replace those killed by Fast and Furious firearms, blanket amnesty with a built in voter registration run by ACORN, and 500 billion in unrelated pork.

Yes and the increased border security is going to be looked at by a commission with a political appointee making the final call on if the border is secured. Be ready to see this whole circus play out again in about 10 years.

Since it's not feasible to round up millions of illegal immigrants, I support the senate's plan and mostly support Obama's. The biggest problem I have with Obama's versus the senate's is he has no intention of further securing our border. Without this, instead of taking a proactive step towards real results, we're just buying time.

Strange, I listened to Obama and did not hear his "plan", just more of his pontificating. He has had over 4 years to present an actual plan for immigration and has failed to do so. So, the Senate gets it's act together and announces the framework of their own plan and the next day Obama flies to Las Vegas to deliver a speech on the subject. He even goes so far as to congratulate them for working on his "plan" (paraphrased).

The man is a hack, taking credit for anything that he thinks will advance him and his agenda. History will show his election as a very sad day in this country.

What I find really sad is the fact that thousands of people have gone through the proper process of coming to America & becoming a legal citizen. Yet these people sneak into our country & march in the streets demanding rights they do not deserve & have no legally earned. Yet Obama wants to just hand them citizenship & slap every other immigrant in this country right in the face for going through the process legally. Its disgraceful to say the least & it will only encourage even more illegals to come here & demand citizenship.

That is the biggest fail of an argument that we always hear. You know what? We don't have to round up anyone. If you take away their incentive for being here most will deport themselves. It happens in states when they make new laws cracking down on illegal immigrants. Those immigrants, realizing it will be harder for them to find work and housing, pack up their stuff and leave. So why should we reward them for breaking the law? If they get a pass, shouldn't we just wipe the slate clean for everyone who has broken the law in the past and has just managed to not get caught yet?

That said, I don't mind revamping the system for allowing immigrants to come here to work and/or become citizens. But if we don't secure the border and pass laws making it extremely undesirable and difficult to live here illegally then we are just wasting our time. We will just be raising our unemployment now and then kicking the can down the road as more illegals flood the country for the next round of amnesty.

Exactly. I think if the Federal Government isn't gonna handle the immigration issue the States should step up & handle it as needed. Its our states we live in & we have to deal with the issues. We could drive them out state by state without the Fed's being able to stop it. they obviously aren't in a hurry cause they don't wanna lose that Latino vote, they are willing to let the majority suffer for a few votes. I say we as states step it up.

The system can't feed off of them if they're deported, they can't provide votes if they're deported, most don't understand the Constitution which makes them better potential citizens to some.
