Homer is a piece of work , last year I had a MG dropped off for some minor work . Months went by , he told me it was done but always had an excuse for not being able to meet me. I went in and Homer was gone but the engraving guy was there. My MG was sitting unsecured on a workbench covered in cluttered filth and the repair still wasn’t done. I just took my gun off the counter and left. Never again will I trust him with anything.

Roy was a good gunsmith and a good guy, he did a lot of work for me and made me some good deals over the years. He sold the business and retired a few years ago. I went in one day and they said he was retired so I never went back in there.

Yup, miss Roy, he did really good work. Sucks Homer ran his trade name and business into the ground.
Roy was a whiz on Remington 700 triggers, I took all of mine to him to adjust. He would do it while I waited and charge me 5 bucks! I don't think we'll ever see the likes of that again. I guess he sold all his tools and the business name to that guy but he sold the building to the lady that ran the barber shop next door. He owned both shops and it's kinda funny he married the lady that ran the barber shop years before and rented from him. He's a cool guy and I miss going up there and visiting with the guys that hung out in there, it was the last of the old time gunsmith shops around.

Now I remember this place since you mentioned it was next to the barber shop.
Back in the day one of our members spotted an early manufacture Ruger semi auto .44 mag carbine for sale in the store. He didn’t have the money to buy it at the time and commented about how nice it was.
That model rifle was on my holy grail list, so I left Ponca at 6am, arrived in Moore just after he opened up for the day.
Definitely old school gunsmith shop at first impression.
The rifle in question was still in the rack priced very reasonably. Not a single ding, scratch anywhere and the loading port had very few fine scratches indicating to me it had little use.
While waiting on the 4473 to go through, I was watching an older gentleman (Roy?)working on a rifle action. It was obvious it wasn’t his first rodeo.

Yeah, Roy was golden for sure. When I was first getting started working on guns, I asked about doing some apprentice work there. Was told absolutely not. Was not for years later I learned he had an apprentice and he had an accidental discharge and passed due to the injury. Sad deal.

Yep.
That was me that saw it.
Had him do inletting for some sling mounts on a stock that I was using for a LTR build.
Was in the middle of buying and remodeling a house at the time and didn’t need to spend the extra cash.
However, if you hadn’t come down & bought it, I more than would have gone and got it anyway.
It sure was a good looking rifle.

I was hoping the person reporting that rifle would respond. [emoji106] It was a consignment gun. After I bought it, he produced a bag of reloaded ammo that went with it. Broke the ammo down and remade it to make sure it would be safe to shoot.
It has taken several deer since then with the loading port showing much more wear now.
Finished the trifecta with the addition of a Marlin .44 mag lever rifle and the Ruger Super Redhawk.
Need to have a .44 mag Range day soon.
