Apparently you forgot the rest of what you said about the emotional investment. Let me remind you. You said it was irrational and based on the A-Team aesthetic of the gun.

My nostalgic/emotional like of the gun was based on the fact it was the first gun I bought for myself...which also happened to be at a difficult point in my life. Not because of a silly Hollywood TV program.
Personally I think the AR love is based on a tacticool desire to play Rambo.

I am in no shape nor thought, a fan of the Mini-14, but this whole thread cracks me up!!!! The same folks that are debating whether the Mini is obsolete are the exact same folks that are jumping on the new "tactical" lever gun craze......talk about obsolete!!🤣🤣🤣
Mini 14 is not obsolete, but their fan boys are.

I’m a fan of a suppressed Henry big boy x .357 because it’s almost as quiet as a suppressed 22. Don’t think that’s taticool, I’m way too neckbeard to be even cool adjacent.

Now, you should see my tacticool muzzle loader. That’s what real men use. You need lasers, thermal optics, bi pods, caddies…

Let’s see….250,000 rounds per kill in Afghanistan and Iraq? And that’s with the best, state of the art small arms we have to offer?? Seems to me a Mini 14 couldn’t have done any worse.

Now all I’ll say toward the pissing match that’s erupted is if you’re going to intentionally cast disparaging remarks intended to insult people the least you can do is own it and not try and explain it away. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Obsolete or not is opinion and opinions are worth about what you pay for them. For ME the Mini 14 is a much more familiar platform and I operate it more instinctively than I do an AR. I do own one AR but it’s only been fired once, I found it awkward and uncomfortable.

The ammunition consumption by the US in combat has been traveling that way since Korea when we changed small unit tactics and and went to accuracy by volume . The estimates were 50,000 rounds per combatant in Vietnam it only makes sense that it would have increased in the last 50 years

Whether or not you have a better handle on the manual of arms for the Mini doesn't mean its less obsolescent. These threads make me wonder how many people actually understand the difference in the meaning of the two words , and understand the actual mechanical considerations of why the gun is indeed outdated .

And there I lies the problem. Since you have a complete command of the English language maybe you can define the word for me please. According to Merriam-Webster Obsolete means “no longer in use or no longer useful”. You seem focused on the “no longer in use” part which I agree with on a military scale while I find the Mini 14 very “useful” therefore not obsolete.

Since you're unable to use google I sure can ... Obsolescent : In the process of becoming obsolete, but not obsolete yet. As in its functional but outdated. It doesn't matter if you find it useful or not , the technology and design are most assuredly outdated .

You can still do certain things with an old PC running a deprecated OS as well but it doesn't do them as well , as fast or as securely as a newer system can.

Gee Rick! Rambo used a Jimmy Lyle knife and an M-60 machine gun. Keep your stories straight! No AR love from Rambo, John J.

M-14 huge fan, Mini-14 an abomination, but if you like them have fun! What fictional character do you think M-14 owners are patterned on Rick? Or maybe G-3 owners??
Makes as much sense as saying people like the Mini because they want to be like the A Team.
