I’m pretty sure he grew up in Norman. He attended Norman High, anyway.

I heard earlier this year that Garner was instrumental in getting another big-name actor started in acting after Korea. I think it was James Earl Jones, but I can’t find anything to confirm that right now.

FWIW, IMDB says Jones was in the 75th Ranger Regiment, an NRA member, and a Republican.

Great actor, hopefully was of the few “good guys” in Hollywood. I’m choosing not to read his obit in NY Times because I’m not giving them my email in order to log in.

I was looking at the ‘This day in history list’ yesterday, unfortunately I didn’t save the link but I’m sure you can find one’, and it was talking about James Garner helping out & giving Dan Blocker his first break in Hollywood. Also mentioned Dan was a Purple Heart recipient for his bravery and act of valor in Korea on Pork Chop hill.
