OKLAHOMA CITY — Lt. Gov. Jari Askins, who ran an unsuccessful campaign for governor, has applied for a vacant seat on the Oklahoma Supreme Court.

Askins is one of 19 people who submitted applications to the Oklahoma Judicial Nominating Commission for the seat left vacant by the Oct. 11 death of Justice Marian Opala at the age of 89. Applications for the position were due by Friday.

Each of the candidates will be interviewed and undergo background checks by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation before three finalists are selected for the governor's consideration. The governor will review the information and interview finalists before making an appointment.

Askins, a Democrat, was defeated by Republican U.S. Rep. Mary Fallin, a former lieutenant governor, in the Nov. 2 general election for governor.

I believe the reccomendations will cross over on cousin Brad's desk.

Arghhh ... let's hope the good Gov. continues with his recent agenda then and spends his time sleeping, drinking with buddies and taking trips on the taxpayer's dime ... :rolleyes2

Never happen ... not while Mary is Gov and Brad doesn't have time to push it through (I hope) ...

I lost a lot of respect for Jari Askins while she was campaigning. I know they are both career politicians and all but Jari's attitude during the debate was the end of the line for me. Talk about an ungracious woman ... That was a side of her I had never seen before although I had heard others speak of it.

I am not a party-line voter so my vote was hers to win or lose all by herself. She did a fine job of losing mine.
