Following recent attacks, the right to armed self-defense is now recognized by many European Jews as vital to their safety. I hope they get what they are requesting.

One of Europe’s most prominent Jewish organizations is petitioning the European Union to pass new legislation that would permit Jewish community members to carry guns “for the essential protection of their communities,” ... “The Paris attacks, as well as the many challenges and threats which have been presented to the European Jewish community in recent years, have revealed the urgent need to stop talking and start acting,” Margolin writes.

“We hereby ask that gun licensing laws are reviewed with immediate effect to allow designated people in the Jewish communities and institutions to own weapons for the essential protection of their communities, as well as receiving the necessary training to protect their members from potential terror attacks.”

Can't blame them but can hardly understand why they would have stayed in Europe in favor of moving to the US or Israel. While I think everyone in Europe should be allowed to carry (if they are not crooks, crazy or frankly nowadays Muslim) I just don't see the liberals of Europe changing their mind on allowing the unwashed masses to arm themselves. Too bad.

One notes that they're not asking for a general carry law, but rather for special privileges only for themselves: "...to allow designated people in the Jewish communities and institutions...."

I'll support them when they support me.

Just a question.....How are "they" not supporting you?

Not sure what your reply is saying?

I would be afraid if I were Jewish and living in the EU right now.

How can they pass a law that would not allow the ones they are afraid of to have guns too?

They're not asking for a law that recognizes everybody's right to self defense; rather, they're asking for a special, "only ones" status, just as certain officials (judges and DAs, for example) enjoy special status in Oklahoma. When they seek to allow everybody to exercise his right, rather than just their own special few, then I'll be behind them.

I read elsewhere that a recent survey shows that 3 out of 4 French Jews are seriously considering leaving the country. If this happens, France will suffer. They cannot afford to lose productive, high achievers. For their own sake they had best grant Jews the right to defend themselves.

(Yukon thanks for verifying the story - my source was a bit questionable.)
