Judy Clarke, the attorney who represented "Unabomber" Theodore Kaczynski, will defend Jared Lee Loughner, the young man authorities say tried to fatally shoot Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

Loughner, 22, the college dropout who went on a shooting rampage Saturday morning in Tuscon, Ariz., has been charged with five federal counts, including the attempted assassination of a member of Congress. Additional charges are expected.

The suspect has an experienced defender of high-profile criminals in Clarke, appointed to the case by the Federal Public Defender's Office in Phoenix. Currently in private practice in San Diego, she previously served as president of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and from 2002 to 2009 she was the first full-time capital resource counsel for the Federal Public and Community Defender Program.

Clarke's representation of Loughner could be indicative of the harsh sentence faced by the suspect, should he be convicted.

Here is a quick list of infamous criminals either represented or counseled by Clarke:

1. 9/11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui
Moussaoui is serving a life sentence at a maximum security prison in Colorado for his role in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

2. "Unabomber" Theodore Kaczynski
Kaczynski is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for his mail bombing campaign that killed three people and injured 23 others.

3. Atlanta Olympics bomber Eric Rudolph
Rudolph was responsible for Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park bombing in 1996. After his five years as a fugitive, authorities caught the "Olympic Park Bomber," who is now serving multiple life sentences.

4. Susan Smith, who drowned her toddlers in 1994
Smith is serving a life sentence in South Carolina for murdering her two sons, with the possibility of parole in November 2024.

She has one heck of a track record. Maybe Loughner will get what he deserves.

We can only hope.

There is a ton of money to be made making sure his constitutional rights are not violated. This will be just like the Major and Timothy McVeigh. No question of guilt ... now it's just up to the lawyers to feed off the carcass for as long as they can.

Too bad it won't be paid for by him. :finger:

Well it seems that this gal is pretty good at getting her "clients" a pass on the death penalty, which is about all this guy can hope for.

I'm sure if they are successful in their "judge shopping" she will have no problem "winning" in this case either.

If you commit a crime and there are more than 6 people who see you do it you go to the front of the line, or something to that effect.

Such BS that this is all being funded by taxpayers, you know the case will last months. Just kill him and be done with it, we wonder how we as a country are in such debt...
