Will Oklahoma ever get around to this or is our state government and law enforcement already too hooked on the licensing fees to change?

However, one of the most controversial new laws allows Kansans to carry a concealed gun without a permit. The part that worries so many is that no training for that gun is required. It is called "constitutional carry," and Kansas is reportedly the sixth state to enact this rule. People who support the law say it is their constitutional right to carry a gun, so the government shouldn't heavily regulate how they do it.

"More good people will have guns, and I think it will deter the bad people from robbing people," said Ken Nagle of Gardner.

Others say not requiring training is not safe and is a public health hazard. They also say it will be hard to know if someone has a gun on them.

"If I walk into a restaurant with my family with my 2 1/2-year-old son, I won't know who has been properly trained and who has not," said Rep. John Wilson, a Lawrence Democrat. "At least if I see their gun I can leave, but now I have no idea."

" They also say it will be hard to know if someone has a gun on them."

That's kinda the point....

More naysayers whining... we've got this rule in several states now and the number of incidents is staggeringly low - even lower than proponents might have figured. We've actually seen more "accidental" incidents reported nationally in areas where they have the strictest gun control laws.

I am glad Kansas has enacted this... now I need to find out, does it extend to visitors passing though, or only to KS residents? Also, I need to look up the areas it is prohibited in KS.

Thanks for the links... I'll have to spend some time reading through it. Don't make it to KS much, personally, but I will be going for a few days next month to take my son to KC for his birthday.

I know I'll probably catch crap on here but I like the idea of having to pass a class to carry in public. My instructor was very informative and brought up interesting scenarios that I had never even thought about. For example, if you are put in a situation in which you have to act, what you do and what you say to an investigating officer could be the difference in going home or going to jail that night. I think that it is a right for people to be armed, but I also feel in situations that involves public or personal safety, it is the responsibility of the individual to be educated on the subject. I know it can be an expense and a pain in the ass to take the time but if it saves a life or keeps a good person out of prison because he/she wasn't educated on when it's justified to use force or uses the wrong verbiage in testimony, then it is totally worth it.

Threatening people with force who aren't threatening anyone is never justified... unless you work for the government and they don't have the right piece of paper for permission to engage in their peaceful, non-threatening conduct.

You just exercised your first amendment right of free speech. Did you complete your requisite class on that before exercising that right?

This!!

The bad thing is that if you need to travel anywhere other than your home state or to Oklahoma who recognizes an ID for a state with constitutional carry as your permit it's pretty much a necessity to be licensed anyway. Hopefully it is only a short time till all the BS on which state allows one way or another is all straightened out.
