Get off my lawn.
My wife wants a set of knives for the kitchen. I'm not buying RonCo or GinSu knives off the TV. Been there done that. :P

Are the Henckles worth the cash? I like to buy things that last, but I also like good value.

Any recommendations would be appreciated, especially since I do a lot of the cooking. :D

We have a couple of Henckels, and they've been great. I've heard that you can get quality knives for a lot less, but I don't know what they are.

When I moved into my condo, dear Mama bought me some Wolfgang Puck knives that have been pretty good. Decent weight, stays sharp but the bad thing is they need to be hand washed.

Calaphalon Katana ftw. Watch your fingers, other than a touch up on the crock sticks once every couple of weeks I just had to sharpen our go to knife the other day been using it for 10 months now.

Sams club sells santoki knies made in germany they are $12 for a set of two they are actually Hekel brand packed in sams club store brand...They are For food service use so they the white Plastic handles not wood, wood does not hold up to constant washing without crakcing.
I bought the same knives same brand and packaging and they were $20 at another store before I found these for almost half off..They had the actual hekel packaging

These are really good knives and hold a good blade..We only use one knife to cook with..But the main attraction to me is they were somewhat quality knives and after 6 months they are cheap enough ($6 each) to toss in the trash and grab the spare in the package. Ive payed $5 to get kitchen shapened in the past.

My wife has some Shun knives and they are great, but very expensive. The only problem is they are very hard to sharpen and they have to be sharpened at a 15 degree bevel instead of the normal 25 degree. My wife has had hers for almost 3 years and outside of touching them up they have not needed to be sharpened. They do recommend for commercial use that they be sharpened once a year.
