Hell I myself am hesitant to call my coon dog a coon dog around my black friends (he’s a full blood blue tick coon hound), my other dog I’ve always called little monkey because she bounces around so much on the couch/chairs etc. I am also hesitant to call her little monkey around them. Don’t know if its right or wrong but its definitely there.
If you're afraid to call a dog what it has been called for the better part of a century because of some ridiculous sense of white guilt, and/or that your "black friends" may be shallow enough to take offense at it.......why even have "black friends" (especially ones like that)? Save yourself the stress of walking on eggshells to not appear "racist", and just hang out with folks that aren't a risk to your conscience. Black folks I know wouldn't think a thing about calling a "coon hound" a "coon hound". They know the context, and if not, have no business in my circle of friends. Would they be afraid to call a saltine a "cracker" around you? Same situation. We've jumped the shark racially in this country.
