I think that you'd run into ATF problems and possibly state problems (with stolen guns). However, I've wondered if this would work: a licensed dealer agreed to buy the guns and log them and agreed beforehand to have all the guns run through NCIC with a caveat that he would simply hand over any stolen guns?

They were running serial numbers for stolen guns, and even if they found a crime gun, they didn't take any record of who turned in what...

Probably a mint late war Krieghoff.....worth $15-20,000. But hey, we got some gift cards.

They weren't checking ID's. They probably bought a bunch from John Doe
