For the deer's sake, I hope this isn't the case. Sadly, many will take bore sighting as good enough.
If you have problems with the .257, go home. Your other option isn't a good choice. Sorry to bear the bad news.
In 1999, I worked a voluntary deer check station at a National Grassland in NE Texas opening weekend of gun season. That morning there were 26 vehicles lining that short stretch of road. I saw a lot that weekend. In one case, there were 2 teenagers and dad going into the woods sharing one AK47 with a 30 round magazine. An older Mercedes pulled up and popped the trunk. In the trunk were 2 brand new rifle boxes and a sack with 2 scopes. The gentleman asked where he could sight the guns in at. The park ranger informed him there would probably be someplace in Dallas. LOL Dallas was 2.5 hours away!
