I have a question. I am new to AR’s and am wondering about the hand guard and mounting accessories. I see in all the great pictures that you guys have posted many different hand guards and I am in need of advice. Can any accessories be mounted to the original “factory” hand guard or does it have to be replaced with one of those fancy multiple rail looking setups.
On the internet I saw a mounting bracket that attaches to an original hand guard and is designed to hold a flashlight or laser. Are these worth even looking at or should I get the newest bullet proof four rail high dollar version.

It looks like some of you guys have mounted a bipod, a 1 million candle power floodlight, and a Dodge mini van on those hand guards. I will probably stick to something a little more conservative.

That being said, three questions, how difficult is it to remove/install a new hand guard, what do you guys think are the most used accessories and in case I can get another loan from the Mother in-law, where is a good place to purchase the right one.

Thanks for your responses.

If you're on a budget, there's always this:

http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Midwest-Industries-MI-Rail-VPG-Package-p/mi rail vpg package.htm

Quad rails are always preferred to mount stuff, but they're not absolutely necessary. The process to remove hand-guards is documented pretty well over on the guides at www.ar15.com

Here's mine:

[Broken External Image]

Set up for multi-calibers. Has the Surefire grip on it. (Am waiting for the new Crimson Trace MVF grip - saw it at SHOT.) Has the ElCan optical. Will be changing out the front sight.

We're designing carry bags for these. Hope to have something available in the next couple of months.

I love the look of the Elcan. How do you like it?

Haven't had the chance to get it to the range yet. But I definitely like what I've seen so far. Traded it straight across for a $700 gun, both gun and ElCan were NIB.
