Here's my next project and it's going to be a long one.
1963 Plymouth Fury.
Pulling the 318 and replacing with a 440.

Here's the back yard I found it in.

Bringing it home.

That car deserves a max wedge reproduction engine at least! Get'cha a 440, tear it down. Go buy the edelbrock victor aluminum max wedge reproduction heads and cross-ram intake. Call up Racer Brown (well, the guy that still makes his cams, anyway). Viola! One bad motor scooter.

Eh? Eh? Eh?

I love the Fury. Great Score.

I own a 1964 Fury and 1965 Satellite.

Back to your Fury. If you decide to put a 440 in it you’ll need a big block transmission, it won’t bolt up to what you have. Sooooo…..To keep the push buttons you’ll have to get a pre-1965 big block push button transmission. 1965 and later big block transmissions will bolt into your car, just won’t have the push buttons. In addition, your car doesn’t have u-joints, it’s a ball and trunion affair, you’ll have to swap that out with the transmission. The rear end has tapered axles; they’re okay until you need to rebuild something in the rear end, then major PITA!

I had to do that stuff to my Fury. New 440 engine, pre-64 transmission with post 65 yoke. Post 1965 rear axle, new drive shaft and u-joints.

Quick and dirty way to get your car going. Built a 360 and drop it in. It’ll bolt right up. If you’ve got some money latch on to a 340 and build it. The 340 is the best production small block ever built. Back in the day the factory 340 would run with the factory 383 all day.

The 318 poly? A very heavy but durable engine. Very limited availability of speed parts. Mine was original to the Fury……..it was sold for scrap.

If you pull the transmission, I’d be interested in buying it.

Here's my Daily Driver. 2006 Silverado. These photos were snapped west of St. Louis on my move to Oklahoma from Maryland in March of 2010. What you see there is everything I own. There is no space for anything else. Even the back seat is jam-packed to the roof.

Ive posted pics of all of my rides here.

Ive since sold a few and am now on the hunt for a new ride. Its time to finally get one of the multi use sport utility vehicles. I never pictured myself in one before but its time to give in and get one.

At my place in California I just sold my 98' Toyota Supra and in my garage there Ive got my custom low rider 63' Caddy and an old crusty 76' Sporty I keep stored away. In my brothers garage in Woodland I keep my 85' K5 Blazer so if I dont feel like driving out there or dont have time I just fly in to Sacramento, go to my brothers and grab my Blazer, drive over to Modesto to check on my business, then drive up to my place on the mountain.
Here in Oklahoma this summer I sold my 88' S-10 Blazer that I bought new in 88' and is what I drove when I moved out east and my custom 95' Chevy C1500 pickup that I had put alot of time in. In Iowa where I have another business I keep my little 96' S-10 4x4 pickup that I use when I'm there. It gets me around great in Des Moines during the November thru April snows.

Now here I am in Oklahoma when Im home having to share my wifes 5 yr old commuter car with her and shes bitching about it (I screw with the mirror, radio controls,etc...). Since we have had a pretty good year at both of our shops (tattoo/piercing shops), me and my business partners in our business, my ex-wife and her husband, are planning to split some profit next quarter which is in a few weeks and after we re-invest some money in the business I'll still have like $47k extra cash on hand. I most likely will put 25k of it into my other investments so the wife doesnt freak out, still leaving me with like 22k cash to spend on a new ride. Not a lot of money but enough to get what Im after.

Even though the last 2 winters here have been real whoppers Ive been here part time like almost 8 years and it doesnt stay on the ground as long as it does at my little place up in northern Cali and in Des Moines, so, Im ruling out getting another 4x4 or even AWD and thinking of going FWD. All of my other vehicles are RWD, but my wifes car is FWD and she gets around great in the winter here- sometimes shes the only one who shows up to work in south Tulsa and we live out in rural Wagoner county.

Im thinking of getting one of the Chevy HHRs. I do alot of highway driving playing guitar in bands and traveling to Iowa and California back and forth checking on my business and there is alot of cargo space in the back for my guitars and gear. Front wheel drive. Retro vintage look stolen from the PT Cruiser (same designer). MP3 plug in. Decent factory sound system. And a little bitty engine. Im not used to getting good gas mileage, usually I dont even care what it cost me to drive my other vehicles. I own mineral rights so Im usually happy when the price of oil is high. The wife on the other hand is always on a budget so she gets 4 bangers so she can save money on her gas. I personally have never owned anything smaller than a 6cyl. 2.4l . Sheesh, I cant even imagine. But they can be had new for pretty cheap. And Ive been seeing alot of them running around lately. Still trying to decide. Looked at a Scion XD and while I kind of liked it, Im not a giant but at 5'10"x275 solid I felt like I was in a clown car. I want a smallish SUV with FWD but not a mouse mobile.
