Loading for 300 Win Mag

I finally got my dies in today. What powder are y’all using for 300 WM using 165 gr bullets?

Edit to add that of the powders listed by Hodgdon, I have Varget, H4831, and 7828 in quantity and probably a few more in smaller amounts.

When I was hunting elk, I always used Speer hotcore, 165 grain bullets over 75 grains of IMR 4831. A fast load that proved very accurate. You can probably work up a similar load using the H 4831.

Thank You. Since posting this thread, I read on another board that 76 grs of 7828 does well, so I will be trying both loads/powders.

BTW I’m shooting this with a Blaser R8 Professional, and the barrel has Vias muzzle brake. I’ve never been a big fan of brakes, but this 300 recoils about like a 243. I’m all about not getting the snot kicked out of me.

Not sure on the 165gr Bullets, but 4831sc has been good for me in the 200gr bullet range

for 165s Old Smokin standby RL 22 or the newer 23 and MR4000 but the 4000 is really better for 180gr and up. I likes me some Alliant stuff.

Imr4831 ultra nice and 4350 will get er done

I’ve seen on other boards too that RL22 is a popular powder for 300WM, but unfortunately, I sold mine after getting away from loading 6.5x55.

That bulk Hogdon 4831 it is then. Those guys that are reco-ing that are not kidding, its a nice accurate powder for the 300 IMr or hogdon either one.

I haven't loaded lower than 180grain bullets in 300 win mag. I liked H1000 after trying Retumbo, 4831 and 1000

I haven’t looked lately, but I figure trying to by H1000 is like Hunter Biden trying to go cold turkey.
