Looks like I have to call an employee first thing in the morning.

No excuse needed. Double checked information. He was on a 2 lane highway maintaining a respectible speed except for one spot. More than likely he was passing a vehicle.

The rest of his trip up and back was normal.

No phone call was made.

+1

I agree it's way too fast, and I don't know what traffic is there, but I have a story on this.

I drove a truck and trailer for delivery for a while, and in Denver once, where traffic moves at 85-90 (speed limit is 75), it was easy to find yourself going 80-85. That was with a nearly full load on the truck. I can imagine if empty it would be even easier.

And no, cruise wasn't logical with the amount of traffic.

These modern diesels are crazy like that.

I know exactly what you are talking about. Coming down from Colorado Springs to Denver I was clipping along at 90+ just keeping up with traffic.

The only time we turn on the GPS function is when the employee has done their fair share of things to put doubt in their honesty. Specifically when we call a superintendent to ask where they are and they say at the jobsite. When they ask why. We respond with well the Owners Rep is sitting infront of your job trailer and you aren't there. He has been there an hour.

Or when we had a superintendent in his fishing boat on the lake when he was suposed to be on the jobsite. Before my time but it did happen.

My personal favorite is the former employee who decided it would be our money well spent to park his truck in the Tener's Parking lot on Reno and go into Night Trips for a couple of hours during the day. We only found out about that one when the Manager at Tener's got concerned and thought we should know about it. Aparently this happened quite often.

Unlike some places you don't have to earn trust here. You just have to keep it.

The two employees that we are monitoring now have earned this one. One has had more calls about his driving than I can count. The other has more gas tickets than anyone else. Its either this or a mileage log. the ML will probably still happen.

I hate it when companies monitor movement by gps. It shows a lack of trust in employees.

I agree. We had one ahole branch manager decide to put gps locators on his sales reps trucks to monitor what they are doing and when they leave home and go home for the day. many of the other managers decided to do the same which pissed me off to no end. after awhile I asked my boss when I'm getting on installed on my truck and he told me, "Don't give me a reason to and I won't". I have never been that type of employee to fock the company and waste time on their dime. I have a wife, kid, mortgage, etc to pay for and can't afford to get fired over being a screw off on the job.

IMO, if you can't trust the employee he really shouldn't be working for you.

If the GPS is for theft purposes that is a different story.

So, tell me why they are still employed. More than one warning is enough. Several of the above mentioned actions are immediate terminations IMO. I'm sure there are plenty of good, trustworth poeple out of work that could fill their positions.
