I continue to be amazed at the vehemence with which people jump on this common confusion.
Why don't people get keyboard whipped as much when they identify a revolver as a pistol when everyone knows that's wrong? I am sure there are other examples of common errors, but I know of nothing that brings out criticism as much as when somebody calls a magazine a clip.
Maybe this misquote applies: "A little knowledge is an annoying thing."
