Oklahoma voters in 2018 legalized medical marijuana. But previous attempts to legalize recreation marijuana fell short of signatures needed.

Supporters need about 178,000 signatures to get the constitutional amendment on the ballot.

The Secretary of State will set the date for signature gathering to begin and supporters will then have 90 days to collect the required number of signatures in order to qualify for the November 2020 ballot, organizers said.

Here is a copy of the petition to ammend the OK constitution.

Editing my own post.

It was filed on the 12th and then withdrawn on the 27th due to negative feedback from the medical marijuana community.

They say they are going to refile in the future.

The law now might as well be recreational. Although, the pro rec crowd might have a tough battle. To many making big money, mainly the state. I know people that can afford to have their cards that are high every day. They just have someone else buy their stuff for them. If we’re going to have it, just keep it med so the state can continue getting something from it. JM2C

Actually, with the way SQ 807 is worded, the state would get a 15% tax on all recreational sales, as opposed to the current 7% sales tax on medical (which, according to the article below, wouldn't change for medical). So, it's quite possible that the state would get a lot more money from recreational vs medical.

Thanks beardking for clearing that up. I’ll be honest, I haven’t read all the laws. I agree with Blake711 though. Tax the hell out of it. Actually, the point to my post was there are plenty of people taking advantage that the state never got the fees for the MM card.

$40,000,000 in licensure fees alone for users in the first year of so-called 'medical' legalization. You can bet the state isn't going to want to give that money up no-way, no-how.

Would need about $300M in ADDITIONAL marijuana sales to make up that shortfall, at 15% tax rate.

I just don't see the state .gov getting behind the effort in the least.

When taxes get too high on something I want I just quit wanting that something. It’s not like I can just get it somewhere else without paying tax. But the tax revenue paid by others is a good thing I reckon.
