I was down at Cowboy Guns in New Boston, TX today, picked up a couple of ATI brand AR-15s. As from previous threads I'm looking for a good bolt action .223. They had the Marlin XL-7 with a heavy target barrel for $400.00. The rifle felt good, fairly smooth action, great trigger. But I still want feedback from anyone what might have one.

So if any of y'all are proud, or not so proud owners, let me know how you like it and how it shoots.

I've built a couple of short action Marlins X7s. It was original attempt of Remington to copy Savage - and good one at that: accutrigger, barrel nut (with the Savage threads), replaceable bolt face.

$400 is a bit steep - since it's in "real" Savage territory, might as well buy a real thing.

Marlins used to $299 at Academy, but prices have gone up:http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/78919

Also, Remington came out with the updated version under Remington 783 badge:

I had a .270 XL-7 that got for $299 at Academy like MoBoost said. Nice, accurate rifle. Couldn't argue with anything about for the price. Only reason I sold was because I had no use for it anymore.
