They try so hard to justify fireworks as an excuse ...

Uh-oh, that probably means we have a fireworks ban coming. Isn't that how they do it with guns? Evil looking "assault rifles", high capacity magazines, shoulder things that go up, dead children, bloody puppies.....BAN THEM!

I have a plausible explanation.

When Al Gore sent them notification that his superboat would transport them in style to warmer waters for the winter, he forgot to adjust the pick up time for daylight savings time. Those who didn't catch that missed the boat and got left behind.
