IMHO, the Obama regime will try to take credit for the crime rate going down(nothing that they had anything to do with--more people owning guns did make a difference). Why don't they take credit for things that they are actually responsible for like Benghazi, rise of terrorist activities, the deaths of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and all of those citizens of Mexico who were killed with Fast & Furious guns, US poor economy, US poor foreign relations, the fall of US prestige on the world stage, etc.,etc.

There may be a correlation between crime rate and gun purchases, but that doesn't mean one caused the other. It could be that the gun scare caused gun purchases to soar while something entirely different caused crime rates to drop (e.g., people simply reported less; police departments downsized and arrested less). I'm not saying any of these are the case, but with the limited data available, we don't know what's causing what here.

I agree with YukonGlocker, the data does not support a conclusion that more guns = less crime. However, at least on the face of it, it suggests that more guns do not cause more violent crime which by itself up-ends a tenet of faith to the anti-2A folks. I suspect (not know) that there is some kind of correlation between legal gun ownership and lower crime rates but that is an unproven hypothesis. Hopefully, someone working on a PhD or another book (John Lott, Jr.) would do an in-depth analysis on that.

While there may be no direct correlation(studies) between rise in gun purchases and the decrease in the crime rate, we also have not seen the blood in the streets, dead bodies everywhere, carnage beyond belief, etc.,etc., etc., etc. that the lib dem gun grabbers/haters predicted every time that concealed carry, the sunset of the assault weapons ban, etc. has been discussed either.

Info from the FOX link above that describes what happens when law abiding citizens practice their Constitutional Right of concealed carry and thugs/criminals take notice of that fact:

“Some criminals stop committing crimes, others move on to crimes in which they don’t come into contact with victims and others actually move to areas where they have less fear of being confronted by armed victims.”- John R. Lott, Crime Prevention Research Center

FTA: Donohue notes that "different statistical models can yield different estimated effects, and our ability to ascertain the best model is imperfect."

What was that old quote? Oh yeah; "There's lies, damn lies, and then there's statistics."
