Mossberg 44US

Shortly after attending one of the Red Castle vintage military rifle events (with a couple relays for 22lr trainers) a couple of months back, I started to get the itch for a US Property trainer. Being pretty late to the game, I found that many of the various models were out of reach (financially) for me, at this time. But I focused my search locally for Remington 513T's or Mossberg 44US's. One of the organizers of the rifle matches put me in contact with a couple of people that may be able to help me out. Turns out one of them had this one that he bought from CMP about 10 years ago. I met up with him last weekend and after giving it a look, I was pleased and brought her home. It's got a few bumps and nicks here and there, but not too bad. Can't wait to get out to the range and she how she does. Just wanted to share. Here are some pics...

BTW, there's a nice 44US(d) in the classifieds right now too. Wish I could have them both, lol.

I bought a Mossberg 44 US from my uncle a couple years ago. Haven't had it to the range yet since I want to make it look much better before I take it out. Wish it was in anywhere near this good of shape, but it needs much TLC. But hey, I bought it and a Stevens 12 gauge single shot shotgun for $35 because he was selling his farm and moving into a retirement home. After I got to looking at parts for it, I pretty much decided that I got the better end of the deal, but I didn't know what I had happened upon when he was selling them.

I'd say you did pretty good. eBay seems to be a good place for some parts. I have a "Mossberg 44US" search that I follow. There are always results popping up. What parts do you need?

I haven't had it out for a while but as best as I can recall the rear sight is missing and it doesn't have the sling swivels. The stock has a bit of white paint on it and I'd sure like to clean that up as well as the rest of the stock while I am working on it.

Had this one out to the range last Friday. I'm very pleased with its capabilities. Looks great, great trigger, reliable and plenty accurate for me. I did notice the front post is fairly wide and it'll take some time getting used to.
