Most dangerous drug? Surprise, surprise:

Alcohol is the most dangerous drug in the UK in terms of its effect on health and the wider socio-economic environment, according to a report.

The study from the Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs was published in the Lancet and shows that alcohol ranked above illegal substances such as heroin, crack cocaine and crystal meth in terms of causing the most harm.

Conclusions were drawn following analysis of the addictiveness of the drug in question and how badly it harms human health, as well as its impact on the healthcare system and social services.

You'll notice that marijuana isn't even mentioned.

Of course, this is in the UK; alcohol isn't near as dangerous or problematic in the US.

Cool. I'll take my Jager and Four Roses Single Malt over some high grade heroin or coke any day of the week. Walk in,buy it,take it home and fire it up too.

Ive had Absynthe and I wasnt all that impressed. I did visit quite a few pubs though when we were visiting friends in Cambridge and London England; and alot of the trip through Europe is still a little hazy. Especially Amsterdam,Germany,Paris, and Italy.

The 2 things I see the most on the job alcohol, and meth. I see alcohol as along term problem, the meth heads don't last long before they are burned completely out. We have community drunks that we have been dealing with the entire 20+ yrs ive been on the job. So for me it's kind of like job security.

Very true, there is a big difference between your run of the mill drunk and an alcoholic. When handling a Meth-head your in a whole different world.

Marijuana should be the least of our worries. I've never smoked it and never plan to, but it still blows my mind that it's illegal and alcohol and tobacco are legal. I'll make a guess that those two have killed way more people than pot. I don't believe I've ever heard of anyone ODing on pot.

You are kidding about alcohol not being nearly as dangerous in U.S.??? Alcohol is a killer, drunken driving, wrecked bodies and destroyed marriages. Friend said, Heroin users can't afford a car so they can't kill themselves or anyone on the road. :laugh6:

Anyone who has a close family member who is an alcoholic is not surprised by that report. Alcoholism can pretty much destroy every aspect of the health and welfare of a family. I don't know the statistics but I would guess that the overall destruction caused by alcoholism easily dwarfs the impact of all other drugs combined.

I'm familiar with it; my oldest brother is an alcoholic, and has no desire to change it. Sad to see him slowly killing himself, but as long as he doesn't physically hurt anyone else, it's his decision. It can be hard on those around him, though.

You are kidding about alcohol not being nearly as dangerous in U.S.???

Sarcasm - I figured someone would pipe up with the "but that's in England" comment.
