I use:

ADBlock Plus (pesky ad and image blocking)
NoScript (javascript blocking)
Fireshot (screen grabs and editing)
FEBE (this one is great! It lets you backup and restore your add-ons and bookmarks)
Flashgot
DownloadThemAll
Cache Viewer (view/save files and images from your internet cache)
Ghostery (Highly recommend. It blocks those invisible embedded trackers that watch what sites you go to)
Download Helper (grab embedded videos)
IE Tab Plus (switch browser rendering engines within a tab)
TOR (surf anonymously at a touch of the button)
PDF Download (lets you control how PDFs act in your browser...download, display, etc)
Flashblock ( I despise flash sites)

too many add ons causes bloatware ... an easy thing to do with firefox. if your browser ever becomes unstable.... start disabling add ons.

if an add on isn't used consistently ... it gets disabled first, then uninstalled if it's not missed.

No script is mandatory due to increased safety from hijacking websites.

ad block, flash block (currently disabled), better privacy to kill flash cookies and toolbar buttons are the only survivors.

constantly trying out add-ons (have tried 100+ add-ons) ... they better get used ALL the time or it's house cleaning time. a good place to start is the most popular add-ons first.

If you are a Minefield beta tester... then add-on choices gets decided for you (nothing works). No Script seems to be only add on, that consistently works with beta browsers.

was wonder what add-ons some of the other firefox users like to use, I have all the major web browsers but I find myself going back to firefox because of some of the add-ons. The latest add-ons I have downloaded and used are adblock plus and flagfox and I seem to like them so far, I have been using coolpreviews and cooliris since they came out and they work fine.

That's a good point. There are a gajillion add-ons out there. Not all are good or even needed.

I've installed some to test and immediately uninstalled due to instability.

Only use what you need.

very first add-on should be No Script
not saying your browser cannot be hijacked without scripts.
but makes it very difficult.

without scripts running in your browser ... it's basically a static display.
another smart move is to uninstall adobe reader and replace with Foxit reader.

Flash has gotten beyond obnoxious. with Flash block installed, a ton of site stops working. clicking on pointers to enable flash is a major pita! beware of flash cookies... better privacy add-on is a must.

can't stand applications without un-installed option like Java.
will go out of my way to uninstall applications with helpers, that permanently reside in my browser.

I don't use any, but after this thread I may try some.

Gotta agree on Flash being obnoxious. But it's kind of a necessary evil.

Turning off Javascript will disable half the internet, though.

The nice thing about the noscript is that you can choose which sites to allow javascript to run on while staying protected against those you're not sure about.
