You don't have to be a student to buy the student version. It can be bought at tons of retailers like best buy. Amazon might be a cheaper option.

I just bought the Home & Student version yesterday for a hair under $110. Did it online from Microsoft.

If he's using this for The Mighty Pen outfit, is he okay under the T&C/EULA/whatever to use the Home & Student version? Considering it's a commercial endeavor?

I'd hate to see the MF drop 90 bucks on a home/student version and be in a licensing and/or tax write off SNAFU when the home/business version is like $150.

Anyone know what the most reasonable way to get Office 2010 is? I know student versions are cheap, but I'm not enrolled anywhere. Is it safe to buy from eBay, CL, etc?

Like this one... http://tulsa.craigslist.org/sys/3391505831.html

Rose State used to let anyone buy a student edition software regardless of whether or not you were a student.

If you were once an OK college student anywhere that may get you in the door.

I graduated from OU. Kept my student card for some reason. Bought a full blown version of Visual Basic 6 when it came out from the Rose State bookstore without a problem using my old OU student card. Have bought text books and various software products from there over the years (not recently though) and they have never asked if I was a student.

Ethical? Not really sure but since I was once a student at Rose State and am a graduate of OU I fall on the side of the line that says its OKAY.

YMMV...

According to MS's own website, the Home and Student version is not intended for "revenue" purposes or "government" use (it can't even be used by Universities). So, you'd have to go with Home and Business at minimum, but probably would want that anyways for the functionality that it provides over Home and Student.
