Regardless of your personal opinion or joking disposition, a highly trained and hard to replace Soldier is dead (murdered it seems) and we are joking and pontificating as to his demise.

Rest in peace Sergeant, your mission is complete. "De Oppresso Liber"

I'd be lying if I said it wasn't tragic, but people die everyday. I feel the tragedy of the situation for a few minutes then I move on.

I am always suspicious. Speculative and leery. My own bias about anyone that is Islamic in our military, I believe them to be a security threat vetted or not. It was during the previous administration after all. I believe a lot of things were pushed through rubber stamped to be alll inclusive and diverse.

Very thorough background checks of people from those third world countries I am even more suspect of.
If it were a political figure I would agree with you, but for a clearance for someone in the military. ANY red flags in ones past can result in a top secret clearance being denied and then they REALLY start digging. Even if he managed to pass all that, its easy for his for his team mates to run him out of the unit. All it takes is one guy to say I don't trust this guy because if this that or the other and they start looking. Its very easy to get put out of the SF

When that communist Cadet at West Point gets commissioned, his top secret clearance will likely be denied and get stuck in a do nothing branch like quartermaster or something and not likely get promoted, ending his career quick. And even then, that's if his command decides to not pursue legal action against him under UCMJ

I get that your suspicious and most naturally are these days, I know I would be

Typical of the xenophobic bullsh$$ that runs rampant here.

Natural born American citizen, Texas high school and Texas Tech graduate, Special Forces qualified Engineer, 2 tours in Afghanistan...

“Oh, I heard he was born in a foreign country. He must’ve been one of those dirty mooselimbs and those noble all American SEALs found him out! Hurray SEALs!”

It's not xenophobia, maybe well founded religious prejudice.

I'd say allowing gays into the military was a corrupt thing to do, for political purposes. Same with women on the front lines.

Islam is a very unAmerican ideology in my view..

How do you know SSG Melgar is Islamic? Because his skin is a darker shade and his last name sounds vaguely islamicky or foreign-ish?

It’s a completely unsubstantiated rumor that feeds right into some people’s inherent prejudice and xenophobia....and they bought it hook line and sinker.

It might be prudent for a man to hold back the unmasking of his prejudices when indulging in mere speculation.

Very good point and very well stated. However, sometimes an inexperienced or inept person might have a very difficult time holding his opinions in check. Perhaps the sound of his own voice or the tone of his written words holds significance to such a person? It does seem to be the case here. For the life of me, I cannot explain why an individual with no first hand experience or knowledge of a particular subject will often feel compelled to loudly voice his opinion, as if it somehow has merit to others.
