snap-on definately has the best quality tools out there. but they are very expensive. But i dont wanna be in the middle of no where with a POS tool, thats when the extra money is worth it.

Rent one from O'Reillys, they let you "buy" one for about $17 then return and give your money back. I got 3 different odd sized sockets to work on my daughters Honda, wasn't sure which size it was. Took them back when done.

I'm alright with Snap On, they are a bit pricey but quality is good and worth it if you use them daily.

But for one odd-ball socket you will occasionally use, why not go to Sears or other hardware store (Steve Wholesale, etc..) and get it? Or do they not stock it either?

Re: your poll, I own Craftsman simply because they are good enough for me (I don't regularly use tools) and working at Sears let me acquire them over time pretty cheaply.

allright problem solved found them in a set at steve's whole sale was not real excited about buying a whole new set of metric impact sockets but it had what i needed, o'reillys only rents and stocks the deep ones due to gm designing the frame cross member almost directly below the nut for the pitman arm it had to be a shallow socket, and yes it is on a crew cab 1500 4x4.
thanks for all the advice and participating in my very first OSA poll

There is only Snap-On. All else is #2, or lower!

I have spent thousands and thousands of $$$ over the years on Snap-On, and I'd do it again, if the need came up!!!

Sounds like some guys just had a bad Snap-On man. I alway had good luck with mine showing up, and even letting me know far in advance if they were going on vacation, or something.

I only had to spend $8,000 to get this hat! How can you beat that???

Seriously though... gonna use it two times? Buy a cheapo from Steve's. Do they have a Steve's up there? The trick to cheap, larger socket strength, is only get a six point, when you can. Twelve points are not as strong, and not as much contact on a so-so fit. A nice cheap proto should do fine. See how I didn't capitalize proto? Like school on Saturday... no class!

My dad is outfitted with snap-on so I was raised on them. He used to run his own shop when I was a little guy. Craftsman can't even hold a candle to them. I feel dirty when I use my craftsman tools now. If I was in business where my tools made me my money, there would only be snap-on in my shop. Just can't justify the price for home use. I went with Craftsman for the lifetime warranty and being able to go to sears and get my stuff replaced.

You are dirty for using Craftsman. Dirty, nasty Dustin. Shame!

I would never leave any Craftsman and Snap-On in the same drawer overnight. Many have opened the drawer the next day, only to find they have all turned in to Macs! Gross. Who wants that?!?!!?

I tried using Craftsman, but the cheap metal gives me a nasty rash.

Okay, enough snobbery. Matco sucks!!!!! Whoa! It's like tourettes!

LOL, sorry Dave. Craftsman can't even put a full polish on their wrenches and ratchets. What's wrong with them? I do miss having $100k worth of snap-on tools at my disposal. Growing up is hard...:P
