I went to a members place of employment for a deal who is an unnamed school teacher.
Upon arrival, he had a class gathered in an outside corner of a wall and staircase. He was showing them how to set a cubby hole trap for furbearers.
Some schools still teach outdoor skills.
I grew up with BB gun shooting in the basement of the grade school I attended with knife whittling as well. We went to school, gave the teacher our knives, and she returned them at the end of the day so we could attend the cub scout activities.

I was a country kid from the '60s and '70s. Most every boy - and a few girls - carried pocket knives every day. The school knew it, they didn't care. It was a tool, not a weapon.

The school parking lot was across the street. Just about every pickup had - at least - a .22 rifle in the back window. Nobody cared.

Sweet memories.
