My kid did 4 years crew chief on 53's during that time period in K-Bay and Okinawa. He switched over to Army in 88 and retired 17 years later as CWO4 Blackhawk pilot.

Me, did 7 1/2 years in the Marines-66-73 as a light bulb changer...I started at Cherry Point and have seen 53's. My Hollywood sunglasses no longer fit.

I was stationed at MCAS Tustin. Been to Okinawa twice, Korea, Japan and Philippines.
