Sad thing is that it is not only NY that experiences this phenomenon. IL and CA are other notable states that are dominated by cities over the vast majority of the state.

Closer to home... look at Missouri politics. Most of the state is trees and decent mid-sized cities like Joplin, Springfield, Jefferson City, and St. Joseph. Lots of rural folks. But the laws that get passed in Missouri sometimes can really leave Okies feeling baffled. Until you consider that their politics are all about St. Louis and Kansas City. Those metro areas are where the power is and they drag the rest of the state kicking and screaming behind them.

I suppose it isn't surprising. Once a metro area achieves a certain level of population density, things start to fall apart. Throw in a bunch of public housing and concentrate those in a few areas, and you have some serious societal problems. Laws get passed with those problem areas in mind. But unfortunately, those laws end up affecting everybody in the state. Laws designed to help with serious gang problems in public housing areas in the St. Louis metro area end up getting applied to people in Jefferson City. Big problem.

Coburn is working with Schumer on gun control legislation.

I wish you guys would give this a rest. If the term "friend of gun owners" can be applied to anyone, it is Coburn. He has the proven voting record. Just because some media outlets push a certain story doesn't mean it is actually true. He's a smart guy. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'll wait until something is actually "put out there" and I can see it. And then see whether Coburn is actually endorsing it or not. Until then, this is all just media gossip and speculation about our best and most valued Senator. I'm not ready to throw him under the bus at this point!!

We shall see.

If you are right, I won't be happy.

Until that day actually comes, I prefer to have a _few_ friends. Coburn HAS been our friend for many years. He deserves that infamous "benefit of the doubt" before we throw him under the bus with all the other F rated politicians.

We don't have to give him an "F" rating until he co-authors bad legislation with Schumer. You can darn well bet the farm that if Schumer's name is on it, gun owners are not going to benefit from it!

Simply stated, Coburn's willigness to enter into a cooperative effort with Schumer is giving aid and comfort to the enemy. It gives less conservative Republicans the thought that agreeing to "compromise" legislation might be OK. It's not. Coburn is damaging our position unless he comes out of it saying that there's no way to work with Schumer and co. Based on what he himself has said, I doubt that as well.

Given the choice of congressmen to provide input into legislation involving firearms; would you rather have Coburn who actually handles and shoots weapons, or Schumer who's only gun handling experience is when he sits down to take a piss every day?

Coburn is just another mush-for-brains political oldster that's never going to stand for election again so he can do and say as he pleases. It's happened time and again so the only reason to be surprised is to acknowledge you haven't been paying attention.

In this case, neither! Better yet, how about Coburn being as staunch a supporter of our Constitutional rights as he is against wasteful spending? Is that really too much to ask?

Politicians never seek gun advice from knowlegeable professionals, it wouldn't fit with their pre-conceived notions. :(

Reagan gave us the 1986 law that locked down MG registry. GW stated he would sign a new AWB. Coburn is working with Schumer on gun control legislation.
Yup them Republicans can sure be counted on.

Republicans are red
Democrats are blue
Neither one
Gives a crap about you.

So what's your suggestion?

Vote all Democrat at Federal level?

Throw votes away on the likes of Ron Paul who is unelectable?

Since you say both parties are the same, then what's say we vote in all Democrats across the nation at all levels, and see how quickly we miss all the Republicans who AREN'T like the above mentioned.

Why don't you call his office and ask??? I called and was told that he does, in fact, support universal background checks and is working towards a law to make them mandatory!!
