Took NIMS 700 and 900.....i think. It's been a while. I think the only thing that i learned from it is how the chain of command works when SHTF. I'm sure it makes more sense to the brass than it does to a street cop.

It is really an important tool used in emergency situations. Once you have seen it in action on larger Scale operations you will really appreciate it a lot more. Use it on small scale ops and it will become second nature and easier as time goes on. There is nothing worse than being involved in a large scale fire and have no form of command structure.

I'm not in fire/EMS, but I've taken 100, 200 & 700. They are dry, boring classes that unless you drill the material on at least an annual basis, you're unlikely to retain much. However, if you're ever involved in a major event that requires coordination of multiple elements, it's good information to have so you don't feel in the dark about how things will work. During a disaster response is not a good time to not understand how the system works.

We drill NIMS/ICS and mass casualty events every year at the airport. If we have a major event here, odds are it wouldn't be pretty. :(

I have had to take 100, 200, 700, and 800. ICS has been around a long time and works. NIMS should work OK, but it is definitely a brass thing. Lots of stuff you may never use.
