Looking at a new barrel for the ar. I'm seeing online reviews about salt nitriding stainless barrels will lower the corrosion resistance. Anybody have any experiance or input on this? Are we talking it sees moisture and rust or?

There are many different "stainless steels" (austenitic, martensitic, ferritic, and duplex immediately come to mind).

Some of these alloys can be damaged by exposure to chlorides, flourides, leachable halogens, at elevated temperatures.

Bottom line, stainless steels are not immune to corrosive attack, and the use of any process using metal salts seems potentially corrosive.
