Assault rifles made after 1986 are already banned. Good luck trying to take the legal ones that people have paid upwards of 20k for away. The Constitution hasn't meant much since at least 1934.

Earlier than that. 1913 for the Fed Reserve Act and the Income Tax, not to mention Lincoln's messing with it before that. It's just been completely thrown to the side since then.
