Both of the new ones for gun control deal with the mental health issue. So... What do you'all think?
Slippery slope? Sounds all well and good, keeping guns out of the hands of crazies, but at what point does that definition go from "crazies" to just common folks who may have seen a mental health professional at some point? How long before that one prescription of Paxil that was prescribed to a guy several years ago that he never took, is grounds for denial of firearms ownership? Like everything the government does to "keep us safe" - from the Patriot Act, to the "War on Drugs, to the asinine "War on Terrorism" - it always grows legs, and becomes a liberty vampire. Always.
I will have to read up on it first.

The more I think about it the worse it sounds. I can see this turning in to something to keep vets from owning guns. And we all know the truly crazy aren't going get help anyway.
I think, soon, anyone wanting to own a firearm will be considered mentally ill.
These are proposals. Nothing more. Don't break out the tin foil over it. He thinks he can make new law by executive order. It doesn't work like that. EO can only clarify existing law. That said, HIPPA prevents any law enforcement entity from accessing or cross referencing confidential patient records. There are extremely powerful groups working behind the scenes to make sure HIPPA remains sacred and enforceable.
Takes AIDS patients. They have obvious reasons for wanting to keep their secret, secret. They have the homosexual lobby working on their behalf, and we all know that politicians are deathly afraid of the homosexual lobby.
Then there's the AMA and APA who stand to lose revenue from lost clients who, if HIPPA is repealed, lose clients.
Those are just a couple of well funded groups who will make sure confidentiality laws won't be repealed.
Just remember, whatever idiot happens to be residing in the White House can't do it. It takes an act of Congress.

I agree. A change in the definition of a persons mental state is on the horizon.
Ex-military will be first to lose their rights due PTSD. Mark my words!
