Hiked 4 miles through the Sonoran Desert today at the base of the Superstition Mountains.
Found an abandoned gold mine and went inside.

200 yards in, this was the view back at the entrance.

after making a 90 degree turn with only a cell phone for light, noticed only 20% battery life left so turned around and left. Man, it’s dark in there with no light!

If you had gone further, you might had found the lost dutchman’s gold.

Looking for a picture I ran across some of my favorite memories.

This is Weisenfel's Gulch Rd in Washington state just across the Snake River from Idaho. This was the view from my "office"...a propane delivery truck. The Snake River runs thru that canyon you can see near that point in the center of the picture.

Nothing special... It was a Nikon P610. Zoomed all the way out.

At 60x zoom it took a while to get a that shot. Pressing the shutter button was enough to move the moon out of the viewfinder.

That right there in bold is why I put my cameras on a tripod and then use the "self portrait" mode to take the picture. I get the subject in the center of the viewfinder and focused and then press the shutter button and step back. 10 seconds later, the shutter actuates and the picture is taken without any movement.

Problem is, I don't always have the tripod with me when I want to shoot something that way. I went out a couple of nights ago with my D850 and 200-500mm lens and didn't get near as good of shot as you did. I'm thinking that maybe I need some kind of filter on the lens.

Yeah, they are. They're even better if you have one available. I didn't. I pressed my hand and camera against a support post on the deck and was able to steady the camera enough for the shot.

If I recall correctly there was no cable release available for the P610 at the time. I wound up buying a remote for it.
