super colibri by aguila is Very quiet with a suppresor, but pretty sure it wouldn't make a good coyote round. most regular velocity ammo will be quiet enough to not get neighbors real attentive..unless they see you. yote will need to be close (in your yard for example) acreages withstanding.

there's a few high powered airguns that's very quiet
a heavy grain .22 or .25cal pellet can do some serious damage

there's airguns .50cal that will take down a buffalo ... but that size airgun moves a LOT of air and will be loud.

I seriously doubt you will ever even see the coyotes anyway. They are as scared of you as you are of them. They have plenty of other menu choices without having to eat you, your dog or his food.

That is simply not correct. Coyotes are wary, but not really afraid of man. I personally have seen them in the Los Angeles City limits. Residents in many areas around Phoenix (Sun City, Peoria for two) don't let small pets out at night and watch them closely even in the daytime. Last year I was parked at an RV park in Peoria in an area with about 1 million people with a 10 mile circle and saw coyotes walking down the park streets at night(looking for the rabbits the residents fed in the daytime)

Their main source of food is rabbit, but they are quite opportunistic and will kill any animal below about 5 pounds. They are not known for raiding trash cans however. Yorkies are a good substitute for rabbits.

To avoid conflicts with the police, I would get a good pellet gun. Some are more powerful than the subsonic .22 loads. They do make noise, but it doesn't sound like a gun. I would still be sneaky as I believe they are still classified as a firearm. Someone check me on that.

LMAO!!!!!:lmfao:

You haven't been around here very long have you? We need to go coyote hunting together and I'll show you how coyotes behave around these parts. The last I checked, we are a hell of long ways from LA! We don't have 1 million people in a 10 mile area anywhere in Oklahoma.

Thanks for the laugh! I needed that one tonight!

Actually he's not wrong about coyotes coming around people.

My wife and I were both outside working, and a coyote came into our yard (not far from us), grabbed a chicken, stopped and stared right at me from about 20ft away with the chicken in hist mouth, then he walked off.

It was the one time I didn't have a gun on my hip. I live outside the city limits.

They're not afraid of people, they're just usually cautious. We may not get many deep inside the city around here, but on the outskirts they're near.

Actually, sir, I have lived in Oklahoma for 60 years. I've also lived and long term visited in other areas so perhaps my knowledge and experience is superior to yours.

I don't need to be told we are a long way from LA, I figured that out by myself. I also know there aren't 1 million people in a 10 mile circle in Oklahoma. Not sure why that is funny. I suspect others understood my point.

I've hunted coyotes in Oklahoma and in Nebraska. They are pretty much the same where ever they are found. A smart, wary opportunistic animal. There are not as many coyotes found around OKC as around Phoenix, Peoria or Sun City, so the problem with them eating small dogs is not so bad. If you leave a small dog outside in those areas it won't last a month. Rabbits and mice are abundant in OKC, so that is what they mostly eat.

Your statement that coyotes are afraid of man and won't bother small animals is what you should be laughing at. Its ludicrous.

To advise the man that he shouldn't worry about coyotes bothering his dogs is pretty poor advise. Unless the dogs are the size of coyotes.

Oh, by the way, I thought Oklahomans had the reputation of being friendly to outsiders, you're not holding up your end of the reputation by laughing at what you thought was an outsider. Not nice at all. There is a difference between disagreeing and laughing which you openly profess to have done.

yrralguthrie welcome to the forum and you are absolutly correct about the yotes, their boldness is directly related to how hungry they are. I know a few people that live on the outskirts of Lawton and have lost small pets to them. I had two male donkeys and one night a few years back we were woke up with what sounded like women screaming in our back field, I guess the yotes had come up after a rabbit and the donkeys came out of the barn kickin the crap out of them.

Watch out for the owls and hawks aswell, we don't let our little dogs out with out an escort of some kind.
