Good question. I'm just speculating, but I'd bet one would have to surrender their 10 year CC permit and then reapply for the 5 year. Other than that, I know of no provision in the SDA laws about that.

My 10 year CC permit is up for renewal right now. I will definitely submit my renewal application ASAP taking the 5 year option in the hopes it will take effect as soon as the new permit is issued. I'll keep you posted.

Don't know should not be problem.
5 yr or 10 yr, the only difference is the price. You would figure if you got a 10yr it would be cheaper but nope. You are just paying double for 10yr so you don't have to reapply in 5.

I travel out of state, so I renewed last year. New one is good for 10 years. I don’t have renew until 2033 if I live that long.
