I read a lot of bad things about the new Remington made model 39s too. Same issues as some mentioned here. Some even said they had 6-12 inch groups at 50 yards with the 39s. One guy posted he sent his back and it was rebarreled and still shot poorly. I would buy an older Marlin before I bought a new one.

I've had a few 336s - the last one I picked up is a 1973. I won't trade it off, I wish I had the others back as well. Fit, finish, wood quality have all gone down.
If you look at gun shows, it's no too hard to find an older one that's been taken care of, I'd take that over a brand-new one any day.
