The law is draconian. IMHO it is unconstitutional. The NRA will soon sue the heck out of it. It will reach Supreme Court. If the composition of the Supreme Court remains what it is now, some or all of the gun laws in NY may be struck down...especially in the context of Heller and denying citizens "common use" firearms.
This may be a good thing, because even if the composition of the SUpreme Court changes in the future, it will be harder for them to completely rule the opposite of any ruling done on the NY law.
May be a good thing. The anti-s may have jumped the gun too quick with a law too draconian.
trying to find a silver lining here....

The argument in front of the Supreme Court will be: the stuff above argued by the lawyer from the anti-s...versus the fact that NYC's definition of a "dangerous and unusual" weapon are common-use semi automatic rifles, also called modern sporting rifles.
