I interested in a full size, 5" barrel, 9mm semi-auto for range shooting and light competition. I only own a couple of sub-compacts and a micro and accuracy at distance is a challenge.

I created a spreadsheet of two dozen different ones I gleaned from the internet. Some of the cheaper ones are in the $850 to $1,500 range. The more highly praised ones are in the $2,000 to $4,000 range, (ouch). Of course the reviews are all over the board with problems, issues, etc. Hard to believe some people purchase a $2,800 gun and there are issues.

What do you have and what is your experience, and what are your opinions? Are these higher end guns worth the investment?

And to muddy the waters further, different weights, comped, mag sizes, optics, grips, aluminum vs steel, etc. This has been quite a exercise in research.

Maybe I should just stick with my little guns !

Honestly, I wouldn't spend $2-4K until you figure out what you like. There are several platforms under 1K that will be suitable for range and "light competition."

I love the CZ 75's.

The standard models are pretty good right out of the box. You can upgrade a little to SP-01 or the Shadow models and still be around a thousand. You can get them customized by Cajun Gun Works or CZ Custom and have super smooth trigger with shortened reset... and still be around a thousand. However much you want to do, or not do for anywhere between about $600 to $1700. But caution, as they tried to tell me... "Don't get a CZ. You'll just want more CZ's."

The 5” M&P pro with an apex trigger and mag well served me in many years of heavy competition. Under $1K. Zero issues with any type of failure.

You're correct. Looking at Canik TTI Combat, Platypus, Prodigy. All under 1k. Grip size needs to fit and these work for me. Thanks

Here is my confession. I owned the CZ Shadow 2 for competition. Sold it a couple years ago. I regret that.
