God I love my job. Karen just chewed me out because our Miracle Whip is too expensive. But it was on sale so she bought some anyway. But she's just letting me know that if it goes off sale she will just drive down the street and get some, she doesn't care how expensive gas gets. 🙄🙄🙄 If she only knew how little I care ... Lol 😉

Today is my Friday -- and not a moment too soon if you ask me. 🤗

The wife and I were working our Summer job near Gainesville, TX about a week ago and ran across some pasture land that had rows of concrete "towers" with metal sticking up from the center. She was curious and looked up "internment camps" for the area and found out that during WWII, they had a training base there that was also used as a POW camp. Further research showed us that almost all the states had some form of POW camp during that time.

While there are still some structures there, I haven't been able to get back to see if they are from the same era. Mostly the foundation pillars and three silo-like structures that I take to have been water towers. Now, the cows occupy portions of the area.

If we can get back to that area in the future, I hope to check out those other structures. There is also a WWII memorial monument at the Texas tourist center just south of the Red River on I-35 that has information about the base and the units that trained there. I want to get back there and get photos as well.

Further research showed that Oklahoma may have had at least 2 POW camps as well.
Tonkawa Ok had a POW camp. The base for the water tower and some foundations are still around.
It's an interesting read on how well the pow's were treated. Some went to the fields to help harvest, the locals held dances, provided meals and so on.
The purpose for the easy duty was a hope they would send letters home and our POW's in Germany would get great treatment in kind, but it didn't happen.
Some of the POW's have returned in the past to visit but most have passed away.

Gonna spend a few days around Mountain View, AR and then a few days at her cousin's lake house on Grand Lake. I believe it's in the White Chapel section.
That sounds like a great vacation. I believe White Chapel is on Monkey Island. Great area of the lake. Enjoy!

Morning ... Kinda. Doctor's appointment got all askew so today was a bust. I "get" to go back tomorrow. 🙄🙄 Oh well ... I'm old -- what else do I have to do, right??🤷🤷

Ran into a former co-worker who I haven't seen since my accident. He kept going on about how good I looked. ☺ He's a sweet kid -- I'll take it. Though I will have to admit that I did look like I'd tangled with a tree last time he saw me. One big old back and neck brace, 2 black eyes, a scraped up nose and cheek and one cane you are hanging onto for dear life probably isn't exactly the look of vim and vigor. Haha!!

The dogs and cats are beside themselves. They know EXACTLY what a big package of hot dogs from Sam's looks like and when we brought it inside they lined up like good kids to get their treat. Lol The black and white kitty (whose name is apparently "TheBlackandWhiteKitty") has decided that Dawg belongs to him. It is a riot!😂 Dawg just humors him. They are too sweet!
